Squirt Boats for Stunt Kayaking

Kayak Squirt Boats

Working The River

Squirt boats are extremely low-volume kayaks designed to play in the currents beneath a river.

Squirt boating has opened up a totally new aspect of river paddling. Instead of using only the surface currents that many boats are limited to, the squirt boats use subsurface currents and surface currents to perform tricks. Stunts include stern or bow squirts, cartwheels, vertical pins on rocks, and what they call mystery moves; spinning the boat while upright underwater--completely submerged.

Take a play boat, round out the edges and the ends and you've got a squirt boat that's designed to play underwater. Its the king of kayaking acrobats. Squirt boats come with a few challenges built-in. They never want to track in a straight line and the cockpit is so small you almost have to grease yourself to get in. In the hands of an experienced paddler, the squirt boat twists, spins, and leaps with amazing agility.

Squirt boats are great in both big and small water, but they are very tippy and best used for the paddler of normal skills on easy to intermediate water. As your skills increase, you can tackle more difficult waters. These kayaks are also great for use during low water periods because you can still do many stunts amd maneuvers on slow, easy water.

Kayaking Tip

Examine your kayak and make sure you have the necessary parts for repair while on the water. Include nuts, bolts, washers, cables and clamps for your rudder. Keep them and the tools needed to install them in a repair kit (a large plastic peanut butter jar works very well).
